転職5ヶ月目に入りました。5 Months Into My Job Change

この記事は約 9 分で読めます

It has been about five months since I made the decision to change jobs. Looking back, I’ve experienced more growth and self-discovery than I expected. The challenges have been greater than I anticipated, and I’ve had my share of doubts, but overcoming these obstacles has helped me rediscover myself.

というわけで、40代IT会社員の転職所管。今回も英語で書いてみます。一言で言うと、大変でしたが、ちょっと慣れてきました。

The Gap Between the First Month and Months 2-3

The first month was a whirlwind of adapting to the new environment. As a project manager, I had to lead a team while learning a completely new tech stack, which turned out to be more difficult than I expected. At one point, I even considered the idea of “Quiet Quitting.” But by pushing through, I started to see some growth and began feeling a sense of achievement.

The Moments of Self-Discovery

There were two key moments when I realized how much I’ve grown since the job change. First, I found myself leading negotiations with clients and other vendors, a role I wasn’t sure I’d excel in. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed it! I never thought of myself as someone who enjoys negotiating, but I discovered that I’m actually quite good at it. This was an unexpected but positive revelation that boosted my confidence.

The second moment was when the office location became more convenient. Until around the third month, commuting was quite a hassle, and I had hoped for more remote work. However, I started to appreciate the value of face-to-face communication, and now, with the office being closer, I actually enjoy going in. It’s not a burden at all, and I find it refreshing to interact with colleagues in person.

Current Challenges

That being said, the challenges aren’t entirely gone. One issue I struggled with at my previous job was long working hours, and unfortunately, this hasn’t improved in my current position. Additionally, there are many times when I’m asked to deliver results on tight deadlines, often requiring me to figure things out that I don’t fully understand. The stress levels are likely higher than they were in my previous job.

Moreover, I’ve come to realize that this job demands a high level of self-discipline. Without it, things can easily fall apart. There’s a lot of pressure to meet deadlines and perform tasks without clear guidance, which can be mentally exhausting. I’ve had to develop a stronger sense of focus and self-management to get through each day.

Goals Moving Forward

Despite these challenges, I still believe that the opportunities for growth here are immense. Going forward, my goal is to manage my tasks more efficiently and improve my project management skills. I also plan to continue enhancing my technical expertise. I want to make sure I am constantly learning and growing, even in the face of these challenges.

While the uncertainties and stresses I felt at the beginning of my career change haven’t fully disappeared, I feel that each hurdle I overcome brings me closer to a stronger version of myself. I’m excited to keep pushing forward, tackling new challenges, and continuing to grow at my own pace.

I’m currently studying for the AZ-104 certification. I’ll write more about it soon!
